Get Twisted with S1-LO

TGIF!!

So its Friday, the end of a busy week. A time to hold it down, let loose and enjoy yourself. Fortunately, about a year ago, a couple of wacked-out Aussies, by the names of Scott Kilpatrick & Martin Stace formed a group known as “S1-LO”.  One of the best Underground Techno acts I have stumbled upon and truly glad I did. Their cultivating sounds that venture into the deep dark bliss of the Techno fortress. Experience these magicians lighting up the airwaves in Sydney every Friday night (LIVE VIDEO BROADCAST) which has now become an essential part of my weekend. If your free between 9pm-12am AEDT, treat yourself to S1-LO.

The Importance of a Playlist

For those DJ’s/podcasters out there, doing your thing in the comforts of your home studio or playing out in the clubs, a good and effective way to create a vibe is to focus on your playlist. It is not necessary to play on a single playlist, but having set of playlist of various vibes and tones is an advantage.

With the advances of technology, the art of mixing has changed dramatically, and more emphasis is given to track selection. Preparing various sets of playlist would definitely improve the work flow of a set, thus improving the listening experience of your audience. There are plenty of ways to sort a playlist, to each his own, as for myself, I like to sort by basslines (bpm), keys and aspects of a breakdown (depth and energy of a breakdown).

It is an art within itself, sorting out tracks that goes well with one another, blend seamlessly and bridges the vibe. In short, if you haven’t sorted your tracks in playlist formats, perhaps it’s time you do, and experience the flow for yourself.

Cheers

Construction Monday – London Water

For many of us, Monday’s are often blue, The dreadful day of starting a fresh week at work. DJ/Producer ‘London Water’ uploaded his “Construction Monday Ep2” cloudcast about 6 hours ago, and I am extremely glad that he did. Currently in tune and loving it! The playlist in this set is remarkable, the beats and vocals seamlessly blend as he takes us on this journey of tecky, deep house beats. A recipe of sounds to lighten and alleviate those Monday blues. Take a trip with London Water!

Get Deeper - DJ D-Yazz

2 weeks ago, a talented artist from Canada by the name of “DJ D-Yazz” uploaded the 5th installment of his “Deeper” series on Mixcloud. A collection of Deep House sets that truly hits the soul.
I am pleased to say that I have been following D-Yazz for more than a year, always enjoy his art of music, more specifically his ability to program a complimentary playlist that transitions smoothly.
If you dig the deeper side of the force, and enjoy a good groove, might I suggest hitting up D-Yazz for an hour, you deserve it,.

LOVE GREEN PARK - UNDERGROUND

October 6th, 2012, Dalam Muzika & Wawawee hosted ‘Love Green Park’, an underground event held in the deep jungles of Kuala Lumpur. This was the first tropical themed event under the label, a rarity in Malaysia.

The Journey to arrive at the event was nothing short of magical. Breathtaking views of the tropics mirrored through a gleaming sunset with all the colors of the rainbow. Arriving early was important, as the gates to enter closed at 9pm, but many were happy to oblige.

Deep organic grooves were there to greet us. Performing the opening act was Malaysia’s Dalam Muzika, captained by pioneering artist Nicky C. Their 4-hour set could have been a story within itself, beats and melodies that complimented the surreal environment surrounding us. Taking us on a journey of love and paradise with every pulsating beat, the energy and vibe creatively built, in preparation for the boys of Wawawee.

Playing till the break of dawn, Wawawee dished out one heck of a techno performance. Technical, heart-pounding beats that kept us begging for more, and more they served. Sadly, but beautifully, the sun took its course and began to rise over the heart of Kuala Lumpur, signaling the close of an epic night. We realized how lucky we were, to be a part of something truly unique, truly underground.

In a time where Malaysia is driven by the commercial scene, this was one event with substance, deeply rooted in an underground scene one may find overseas, a scene that is destined to grow in Malaysia.
